The political system of the United States

The political system of the United States

The United States political system is a federal system, divided into three main pillars: executive, legislative, and judicial.

1. **Executive Branch**: The President is the Head of State. The president is elected by popular vote and is responsible for running the country's administration, leading the military and establishing international relations.

2. **Legislative Branch**: Congress has two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The 100 members of the Senate (2 from each state) and the number of members in the House of Representatives are determined based on the state's population. This branch makes laws.

3. **Judicial Branch**: The US Supreme Court is the highest court in the land. It interprets laws and decides constitutional issues.

In addition to the federal government, states also have their own governments, which make and administer local laws. Thus the US political system has developed a complex, but effective structure.
